70! Two of Larry’s older brothers turned 70 years old on Nov. 20. Larry emailed them birthday poems. The following is the meme sent to Briant (Brice’s was similar) .... The next day, Nov. 21, was the 73rd birthday of medical missionary Dr. Robert Frampton, who lives above us. Here’s what Larry made for him ... Want to see some more cartoons? These we sent to our architect-in-training son who turned 34 on Nov. 16 ... Feedback on Larry’s homemade map (and a comment about mail and couriers in Guatemala) ... L arry likes the wall map he made. No need for another.

The Temple Matron relieved Babette from having to do  the final seven dresses.  We had direct sunlight one day this week. Larry saw  his shadow!  That means 15 more months of Spring for him and Babette.  From Temple Pres. Norman’s blog... “On Thursday Nov. 10   President Rosales called and said that one of the buses with members from the Polochic was stopped and prohibited from coming into the city because it did not have the right papers.  So he drove the temple van, Brother Abadillo drove the MTC van and I drove our van and we went and got the people and brought them to the temple.” We made a map to mark our travels Larry  wanted a big map of Guatemala on our wall. He tried several stores to buy one, without success. So he made one himself.   Keep fit Fellow temple missionary Bryce Holman walks/runs  almost everyday to keep in shape. Larry  needs to follow him,  just like he did in Argentina 48 years ago when he was his...

Nov. 6-12, 2017 - Outdoor Map, Crazy Address, Molar Pulled, Conversion Story, Guatemalan Conference

Larry’s strange Monday day off While Babette and the other temple missionaries visited the tourist city Antigua, for the second time, on our Monday day off, I, Larry, had to see a dentist about pain in a molar.  The dental missionaries’ clinic is located near a huge city park containing a gigantic outdoor “Relief Map of Guatemala.” I took a taxi to it at 10:30 am (the first taxi ride I’ve taken alone here). My dental appointment was at 1 pm. I had lots of time to see this marvel.    Lots of walking around At 11 am, after viewing the Relief Map, I started walking to the clinic which had an address of 6-96 7A Avenida. I had been told that the clinic was 4 or 5 blocks away from the map, so I was confident I was going the right way. When I got to that location (about 9 blocks away) there was no clinic. The clinic was supposed to be easy to find: white stucco  with a painting of Snow White and the 7 dwarfs. I had seen it once when we picked up a missionary from ther...

On our Monday day off... Larry’s review of the movie... Geostorm is surprisingly entertaining   I wasn’t expecting a good movie. I normally don’t watch disaster  movies. I just wanted to go out with Babette and see a movie, in  Guatemala. In Geostorm, Earth is beset by natural disasters. In  facing adversity, mankind developed a satellite station to prevent  these catastrophes. While people overcame this problem, another  conflict arises when it becomes opportune to use the technology as  a weapon for sole global domination. Going to see the movie, I wasn't expecting much for it because it  seemed like a so-so movie that's probably been done before only re- released with a "semi different plot" under a different title. But I was  surprised by how entertaining it is. There's the timeliness of its  subject and dramatic scenes that touch you. The special effects  were fantastic. I don’t remember having heard swearing. There’s no...
