Farewell, friends 😪 At a family home evening in their honor, two temple missionary couples spoke to fellow missionaries,  expressing their feelings  about the completion of their missions.  Nancy Fisher was first. She said that although she struggled with Spanish during the six months they were in Guatemala,  she was able to establish many friendships that she would cherish forever. Tim said that the Lord’s hand was evident in his two  missions in Guatemala, separated by 41 years. He was able to see first hand the growth of the Church among Mayan-descendent people. On Sunday, at a distant district conference, he challenged them  to increase their temple attendance, a key step in their becoming  a stake.    Eve Winkfield began her remarks talking about talents, that  a person needs to ask the Lord for them. She asked for the gift  of learning to speak Spanish well and was able to achieve a level that was satisfactory to her. Ke...

Monday Day-Off    No exciting trip this Monday            Burials are quick in Guatemala Thursday, Feb 8, 2018 ... This is how many volunteer missionaries from North America (in  all fields of labor) it takes to help run the Central America Area  affairs of the Church. Photo was taken in November at a quarterly conference of said people. We got a copy of it today.  Thurs, Feb 8, 2018  Our 45th Anniversary What did we do to celebrate? 1. Babette sent a musical eCard to Larry. 2. Larry made a 17-second i Movie for  Babette. We didn’t go to dinner because our temple shift was 1 pm to 9 pm.  Larry didn’t buy Babette flowers because she said there are plenty of   blooms wherever we walk. (First time in 45 years THAT has happened  on our anniversary!) Also on Feb 8, we met with another missionary couple... The Jensons want to improve their Spanish and Oscar  and Clara Flohr want to improve their Engl...

Monday Day-Off     We climb  active Volcano  Pacaya   Pacaya:  2552 meters (8,373 feet) Eruptions of lava since 1800 : 1805, 1830(?), 1846, 1885, 1961, 1965, 1970, 1972, 1973, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1980, 1998, 1999, 2003, 2004, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2017. We were told there was lava flow on the day we were there, on the other side, but we could not substantiate it on Google.  We rode horses up the mountain, because Babette’s foot had been hurting and because Larry pooped out after hiking about 100 meters. “This trail is almost VERTICAL,” he pronounced in his defense. The real reason is that he is 40 pounds overweight and hadn’t been preparing for such a hike. The Holmans did the whole hike on foot and they are Larry’s age and older.  Bryce and Sherry Holman were able to walk the whole way because they used STRIDER POLES. What do YOU think? Maybe Larry should use them next time. Perhaps they’re magic.  Disaster! Larry killed his iPad as he ...
