For Valentine’s Day, Babette gave Larry chocolates on a homemade valentine heart. We also walked to the closest ice cream vendor for cones. The ice cream looked good but tasted stale. Oh well ....

At a family home evening in their honor, two temple missionary couples spoke to fellow missionaries, expressing their feelings about the completion of their missions.
Nancy Fisher was first. She said that although she struggled
with Spanish during the six months they were in Guatemala,
she was able to establish many friendships that she would cherish forever. Tim said that the Lord’s hand was evident in his two
missions in Guatemala, separated by 41 years. He was able to
see first hand the growth of the Church among Mayan-descendent
people. On Sunday, at a distant district conference, he challenged them to increase their temple attendance, a key step in their becoming a stake.
Eve Winkfield began her remarks talking about talents, that
a person needs to ask the Lord for them. She asked for the gift
of learning to speak Spanish well and was able to achieve a level that was satisfactory to her. Ken expressed thanks to the temple
President for providing to temple workers the booklet “Preparing
to Enter THE HOLY TEMPLE.” He said it was an excellent
source of inspiration for him.
Of the Fishers and Winkfields, Guatemala City Temple President John Norman said, “They have both served well, been a great
asset to the temple and they have blessed the lives of many members. We will certainly miss them.”
Oscar and Gloria Fajardo had been long-time workers in
the Guatemala City Temple before they became full time
obreros as missionarios in January. Brother Fajardo
possesses university degrees in philosophy and
communications, which were excellent platforms for his
5-year project of expressing his great joy in the Restored
Gospel of Jesus Christ through sonnets, in his book
“El Soneto de las Profesias.”

Elder Ellington was bleeding quite a bit, but got a taxi to take him home. His wife didn’t know what to do, so she sent him to the Mission training center because they have a nurse there. Brother Cajas, the MTC director, he saw his arm and knew he needed more than they could do there. The ambulance service that the church has contracted with always has a MD on board. He cleaned the wound and stitched him up right there at the MTC. He gave him a prescription for pain and antibiotics and said that in 10 days, if he called, they would come and take out the stitches. The best part is that it was covered by the Church’s contract and he did not have to pay anything.

All night baptizing - WOW - we've never done that one!
