March 19-25, 2018 Catholics & Holy Week, talk in Church

All over Guatemala this week, many church and church sponsored schools had their own processions during the weeks before Easter.  At the girls school across the street, they had a mass and then their procession where they carried on their shoulders a two platforms, one with Jesus carrying the cross and another depicting Mary in her regal splendor.  The floats in Antigua need as many as 100 men to carry them. We will see this on Good Friday. It is a wonderful time where everyone is remembering our Savior and His resurrection. In Canada and the U.S. parades of religious icons are frowned upon, being politically incorrect. It’s wonderful to see Jesus paraded and adored on public streets here in Guatemala. We hope it can continue.

Students at Bethania Institute prepare one of many flowers-and-
sand carpets in preparation for a parade.

Students line up along the carpets, awaiting the floats carrying effigies of Jesus and Mary.
