April 30 - May 13, 2018 New Temple President named, May 1 worked hard, Gordons go, watercoloring, Avengers, free dental
President John Norman read the on-line
Church News to learn who his successor would be.
May 1 was a holiday for all Guatemalan workers,
except for temple workers. Larry Jenson worked
9 hours, starting at 4:30 am. This was the most he
worked in one day at the temple. Was Larry upset?
Not in the least. It was a wonderful, memorable
experience.

Temple couple departs
Temple missionaries Jennifer and Silbert
Gordon went home to Belize City two weeks
early because thieves broke into Silbert’s
workshop and took several tools. They also
attempted to get into their green painted home,
which had been occupied by a daughter over
the past year.
The Gordons, serving for a year, were
the first, and only, Belize members to serve
missions for the temple that includes that
country. They were very conscientious in their
temple service. They arrived early for their shift
and stayed until it was completely finished.
Silbert willingly performed the more menial
chores, such sorting used clothing and taking it
to the laundry for cleaning. He would also spend
hours in Sealings as a witness. The 75-year-old
was challenged when it came to learning the
words of the ordinances. He did his best there
too. Jennifer was able to do ordinances well.
Everybody misses Silbert. I miss him because
he laughed at all my jokes. We and the Holmans
took the Gordons to Tacontento for their last supper
in Guatemala.
Coincidentally, the last souvenir of Guatemala
acquired by the Gordons was a framed copy of
the famous painting of the Last Supper. In
Guatemala it’s easy to find anything about the
life and mission of Jesus. People here haven’t
lost religion as people have in other places,
like Canada and the U.S.
In January, there were 7 couples from outside
Guatemala who were serving in the Guatemala City
Temple. Today, there are three.
More watercolor portraits by Larry
They are recognizable, but need a professional finish to them. This could take a while to learn.
What an exciting update -- again! Loved it! Now, about the Avengers and Dr. Who, I am with you there. Don't know who Dr. Who is, and know absolutely nothing about the Avengers. I wouldn't have been disappointed with the ending, because I, too, would have been lost throughout!!! Oh my!
ReplyDeleteWell, yesterday the grandchildren got to call home - I was only able to hear from the Chubak kidlets - they both seemed very happy, yet emotional, enjoying their missions. Coral comes home in July and I think that is weighing heavily on her mind, as she has so enjoyed her mission. Kellen is still a greenie - getting his feet wet. They are both doing very well. Thomas (Philippines) didn't call home - but will next week; Spencer called but I don't know what all he said, except I do know that he is happy, emotional and loving his mission - all at the same time.
Yesterday we had two missionary farewells, Elder Moore leaving for Peru, and Sister Price leaving for England, both of them fly out tomorrow.
You two are having so much fun! I'm so happy that you have been able to have this experience!
Love hearing your updates.
Take care,
Marlene
